New Business:
Dave Wickman updated the membership on the State
of Iowa sales and use tax issue the ISTA has been assessed for the tax periods
January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2008. Our attorney in Des Moines has filed
a protest on both the sales and use tax issues on July 22, 2010. We are told
that this process could take 8 months before getting an initial response from
the Department of Revenue. The ISTA needs to hire a lobbyist. Dennis Bigelow and
Barrie Swinbank each commented on why a lobbyist is necessary in this matter.
Dave thanked everyone for their patience this week on shooting the doubles. Starting the week shooting all 100 doubles on one trap was a mistake, but the Board did listen to suggestions and revised the shooting of doubles to 50 per trap.
The Board did hire an independent source, Kevin Dolphin CPA, P.C., to complete an Accountant’s Compilation Report of the assets, liabilities and net assets – cash basis of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association as of December 31, 2009. A copy of the report is available for any member to review.
Dave also commented on the ISTA’s Internal Revenue Service audit of Form 990-T income tax return for the period ended December 31, 2007. The issues of income from vendors, program advertising and land rent were reviewed in this audit. The audit has been completed and the ISTA owed $503.15 for 2007; $220.23 for 2008; and $318.40 for 2009.
Dan Wood commented on the ATA, particularly the new AIM program for the youth. Jim Brown was the AIM director in 2010. Effective September 1, 2010, the AIM co-directors will be Mick Friedel and Robert Doerres. Dale Stockdale commented that at the 2010 Heartland Grand, he will be waiving all fees for AIM shooters. Dan also commented on the new ATA category rule. Dan will present the results of the Iowa survey conducted at the Iowa State Shoot at the 2010 Grand American. A comment was made to include more Iowa information in Trap & Field.
For the memberships information, Dave stated that several members have agreed to be on a trophy committee who will select and purchase trophies for the 2011 Iowa State Shoot. Dave commented that Mick Friedel devised a system to set doubles quickly. Talk to Mick if you are interested in his system.
In closing, Dave thanked the Board, Alternates and everyone who worked to make the 2010 Iowa State Shoot a success.
A motion was made by
Tim Gerdes that the meeting adjourn, seconded by Gary Dudley. Meeting adjourned
at 9:00 am.
