IOWA STATE TRAPSHOOTING ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
March 1, 2009
A Directors Board Meeting of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association was called to order by President Jon Peterson at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Comfort Suites, Des Moines, Iowa.
Present were: President Jon Peterson, SW Zone Director and ATA Delegate Dan Wood, NW Zone Director Rick Kalsow, SE Zone Director Don Wickliff and NE Zone Director Barrie Swinbank; Alternate Zone Directors Steve Manary, Kevin Hartwig, Jim Cole and Ronald Munkel; ATA Alternate Delegate Pat Lyman; and Secretary/Treasurer Debra Oelmann.
The minutes of the October 12, 2008 Annual Board Meeting were read. Don Wickliff moved, Dan Wood seconded, the minutes be placed on file.
A discussion was held on adding the old "Wolf Options" back into our 2009 state shoot on the handicap events. On the Wolf Options, a shooter must play all or none. The total option would be $70.00 (ties divide) split as follows:
Option Each 25 - $5.00 one money - $20.00
Option Each 50 - $10.00 60/40% - $30.00
Total 100 Purse 50/30/20% -
$20.00
$70.00
After discussion, Rick Kalsow moved to add the above Wolf Option to our 2009
state shoot on all handicap events (Events #2, #5, #8, #11 and #14), seconded by
Don Wickliff, motion carried 4-0.
The ladies entertainment at our 2009 state shoot was discussed. In light of the present economy and our financial position, it was moved by Dan Wood to end the services of Mary Ann Moore and Maria Murphy who lined up the "Fun For The Ladies" in prior years, seconded by Barrie Swinbank, motion carried 4-0. Barrie, Steve and Kevin have agreed to visit the Isle of Capri to work on a package Thursday, Friday and Saturday for ladies entertainment, such as transportation to and from the casino, lunch, free play money, etc., as well as visiting with them regarding a poker tournament Tuesday through Saturday.
More discussions were held on the 2009 State Shoot. Tom Dentel was the 2008 Iowa ATA Delegate and lost his battle with cancer last fall. In honor of Tom, the Board has decided to name Wednesday’s singles the "Tom Dentel Class Singles". The Fun Singles on Friday were discussed and will remain in the program. There was a lot of confusion during the 2008 State Shoot on which traps were being used for these Fun Singles. For the 2009 State Shoot, we will use traps 27-34 for the Fun Singles. The youth shoot will use traps 1-8. Shootoffs will then be able to be held on the 3 practice traps and traps 9-26.
The 2009 Iowa state shoot target prices were discussed. The price of targets will remain the same at $28.00 with the $1.00 maintenance fee. The state shoot trap help pay was discussed and will remain at a daily rate. The trap help needs to be monitored more closely with Wendy. A sound speaker is needed in the scoreboard area.
Steve Manary handed out to all four zones the "Gun Raffle" tickets for the Remington 1100 Classic Trap Gun. These 1,000 tickets will be sold for $5.00 each. It was decided to solicit more prizes for this gun raffle.
Dan Wood stated that the ATA lost money in their investments, and that he is presently looking for a State of Iowa A.I.M Director.
Jon stated that he has talked to Lynn Gipson regarding the lead reclamation process which was not completed last fall, but will be this spring. Lynn’s crew will be moving equipment to Cedar Falls in the very near future to be ready once the weather is fit. Scrap lead is in the $.50 per pound range.
The High School Trap Shoot and SCTP Shoot will be held at the ISTA home grounds on June 12th and 13th. The SCTP shoot of 200 registered single targets will be held on Friday, June 12th beginning at 9:30 am. The High School Trap Shoot of 50 non-registered single targets will be held on Saturday, June 13th. We will have shells to sell in the office. We will also offer camping at $20 per night which includes water and electric. Practice targets prior to the 12th and 13th will be sold for $4.00 per 25.
Jon discussed with the Board the need for the Zone Directors to forego being paid mileage to and from meetings, to work days at the grounds, to the State Shoot, etc. until the ISTA gets back on its feet financially. Some Directors were being paid and others were not. Don Wickliff moved that the Zone Directors not be paid mileage until our financial position can warrant this expenditure, seconded by Barrie Swinbank, motion carried 4-0.
A motion was made
by Don Wickliff that the meeting adjourn, seconded by Barrie Swinbank. Meeting
adjourned at 2:10 pm.
