IOWA STATE TRAPSHOOTING ASSOCIATION A Board Meeting of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association was called to order by President Jon Peterson at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2007, by a telephone conference call. Present were: President Jon Peterson, Zone Directors Dan Wood, Don Wickliff and Barrie Swinbank; ATA Delegate Phil Thyer; and Secretary/Treasurer Debra Oelmann. Jon stated that the Cedar Falls Gun Club has contacted him regarding repairs to the clubhouse restrooms at approximately $20,000 and the insurance. Jon asked the Directors for their ideas regarding the restrooms. Everyone was in agreement that the ISTA is not in a position financially at this time to renovate the clubhouse restrooms. Regarding the insurance, the ISTA will await a proposal from the Cedar Falls Gun Club. Raising our state shoot target price for 2007 from $25.00 per 100 was discussed. After discussion, the Board decided to wait and ask around to see what other states will be charging in 2007. The 2006-07 state team requirements were discussed. After discussion, a motion was made to leave the state team requirements the same as they were for the 2005-06 year with no requirement that one-half of the targets must be shot in Iowa. Also, there will be no requirement that a shooter must shoot the 400 championship targets at the Iowa State Shoot. A survey will be handed out at each zone shoot this year and will then be reviewed by the Board for use in determining the state team requirements for the 2007-08 year. The 2006-07 state team requirements are:
The state team rings were then discussed. A motion was made by Don Wickliff to discontinue the state team rings for the 2006-07 year, seconded by Barrie Swinbank. The 2005-06 state team members who qualified and do not have a ring will receive a ring at the 2007 Iowa State Shoot. Jon informed the Board that Gene Zirkelbach and Chuck Hilgendorf have agreed to be our 2007 state shoot mechanics. They both will come to Cedar Falls when the traps are placed in the houses to perform maintenance on each trap and to reinstall the original double pat trap fingers. The ringers now on each machine are not legal per the ATA. Gene and Chuck have also agreed to train a new mechanic for us during the 2007 state shoot. Jon asked the Board if they had any objections to him asking Reed Aswegen to become a pat trap mechanic. Everyone was in agreement. The camping fees for the 2007 state shoot were discussed. Don Wickliff made a motion to leave the 2007 state shoot camping fees at $125.00, seconded by Dan Wood, motion carried. Jon stated that we need to start working on the 2007 state shoot program and a goal we should all pursue is obtaining more advertising for our state shoot program. Scheels may host an event at our state shoot, as well as the new casino being built in Waterloo. Dean Ekstrom has resigned as the NE Alternate Zone Director. Barrie will work on obtaining a replacement for Dean. A final discussion was held on the ISTA youth program. The ISTA charges $1.50 in daily fees, of which $1.00 goes into the daily fees fund and $.50 goes into the youth fund. In the past $.04 per target has been reimbursed to registered shoot gun clubs for youth shooters. In 2006 the youth fund collected $3,854. The amount paid to gun clubs and the $1,000 for the SCTP program in 2006 was $7,296.17. After discussion, Dan Wood made a motion that the $1,000 for the SCTP program be discontinued, and the amount paid to gun clubs who submit an invoice for youth shooters be paid on a pro-rata basis. That is, the amount of the invoices submitted is a percentage of the total. This percentage will be multiplied times how much money the youth fund collects from the registered targets thrown at the gun clubs submitting invoices, seconded by Don Wickliff, motion carried. Therefore, each gun club should charge accordingly for youth targets. A motion was made by Dan Wood that the meeting adjourn, seconded by Don Wickliff. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Debra Oelmann |
